We are passionate in South Tipperary about improving the lives of people with dementia and feel very lucky that we were selected for this funding.
None of this work however would have been possible without the initiative and commitment of Atlantic Philanthropies, The HSE, and Genio, who developed and funded the Genio dementia programme. Thank you to Genio for selecting us, for investing in us and for supporting us as we deliver the project. Working as a consortium is novel and exciting for us all; it ensures that the voice of everyone is heard and that people with dementia and carers are at the centre of decision making along with clinicians and our voluntary sector partners alike.
When we were planning this project we sought advice from former carers who had looked after their relatives with dementia, long before the dementia projects were developed. We asked them what services and supports might have helped them, had they been available. One woman, whose extraordinary commitment to her mother has always humbled and moved us, said simply “always remember that you are standing on the shoulders of giants”.
We want to honour all those giants, past and present, who inspire us so much, who let us in to their lives and allow us to be with them on their dementia journey. This project is all for you.
