Understanding Changes in Behaviour

Some people with dementia may experience changes in behaviour over the course of the condition. These are often referred to as 'responsive behaviours' and are not always directly caused by the person's dementia but may be caused by other underlying causes such as environmental factors, illness, pain, discomfort, anxiety or boredom. The behaviour is often the person's way of expressing a need. This is really important to know because it can help you deal with these behaviours if and when they occur.
