Orientation

Disorientation to time and day can be common for people with dementia. This can have negative impacts on the person’s day and on their overall well-being. Having good routines and habits can support orientation; however for some people they may require an orientation support.
There are assistive technologies that support orientation to the day and time. These are called orientation clocks, that will automatically change the day and date.
There are a range of these clocks available, some will even identify the time of day i.e. morning, afternoon, evening and night. This can be especially helpful when the days get shorter, for instance; a person may go to bed not long after dark, as they would have done in the summer months, this may mean they wake earlier e.g. 5am and begin their day potentially leaving the home earlier when shops and services are still closed.
